Mat and Nick started Golden Pines because they saw a problem up close.

Their family ran service businesses, construction and cleaning companies, and every year the same thing happened: the work never stopped, but the books always fell behind. Receipts piled up. Hey, I’m Mat. I’ve always loved being outdoors—hiking, camping, anything that gets me away from the noise. People are usually surprised when I tell them I also love digging into financial statements. For me, the two actually fit together pretty well. There’s a quiet focus that comes with both: whether I’m on a trail or working through a set of books that don’t quite add up yet.

I know most business owners don’t enjoy staring at bank feeds, tracking down missing invoices, or figuring out why one transaction is off by a few cents. That’s exactly where my team and I come in. We’re the ones who are comfortable (and pretty good at) sorting through the details until everything reconciles and makes sense.

I’ve been doing this for over 11 years now. I started out writing invoices for a construction company, then moved into managing millions of dollars in monthly transactions for larger clients. I’ve been the person who gets the last-minute bill at 5:55 p.m. on a Friday and still gets it processed, or the one making a late-night journal entry so the books close on time.
